I was recently going for a bike ride when I noticed I was fast approaching a woman in front of me. I rang my bell and told her I was coming through but she didn't notice and I had to break quickly to avoid hitting her. She was listening to an MP3 player and hadn't even noticed what was going on. As the weather is warming up people are starting to get out and enjoy the summer, and more people then ever are bringing their MP3 players with them. But it is all too easy to get sucked into the music and not pay attention to what you are doing. Not only can it lead to accidents, like the one I was almost in, but it makes you a prime target for criminals looking for someone to attack who won't be prepared.
When you go out with your iPod make sure that you have the volume down at a level where you can still hear background noises. Since your hearing is distracted use your eyes to constantly scan the area, in front and behind you, to be on the lookout for potential dangers. Another option is to ditch the headphone entirely and get an iPod speaker so you can better hear what is going on around you.
Take these simple precautions and you will continue enjoying your iPod, at least until winter comes.

That's good advice! Listening to music on your MP3 too loud can put you at risk if you can't hear vehicles or people coming up behind you.
Some people become so wrapped up in their music they forget about everything around them and become oblivious to everything.
Accidents can happen if you don't take precautions.
Mp3's are not the only problem though. How many people get run over while distracted by their mobile phone? I can quite happily cross a road listening to music, by eyes work, and I'm sensible enough to look both ways, so it doesn't matter how loud my music is. It's when people aren't looking at what they're doing that they're gonna cause an accident.
No long after I wrote that last blog I nearly got run over twice on my way to work. Think I'll start listening to mine a little bit quiter now, just in case. I'd hate to be the one to prove your theory right. Death by Ipod doesnt sound very appealling.
