:: iPod nano accessories

The new ipod nano is not just amazingly small in size but also astoundingly fully loaded with all features. To add to this, is the range of accessories that have come new in the market. For all those who already have ipod accessories, here is a ready reckoner of what is available, what may and what may not work with the new ipod nano.

FM transmitters

The new ipod nano is compatible with just a few types of FM transmitters. Transmitters that connect to the system via a dock connector plug or a standard headphone miniplug are fully compatible while transmitters that connect to the headphone/remote jack on mini and standard iPods are incompatible due to the lack of this jack.

Ports and connections

Only Apple’s proprietary dock connector port, available with most ipods, works with the nano. This means that if you already owned an ipod mini, the dock-connector accessory would work here too. Additionally the nano includes a standard headphone minijack, but does not have the remote jack that is seen on full-size and mini models.

Speakers

You will be glad to know that speaker systems that get their audio from the dock connector, which includes a wide range, work with the iPod nano just as they do with other dockable iPods. In addition, where systems have a wireless remote control, the remote also controls the nano’s playback, just as it does with mini and full-size iPods.

Remote controls

The nano lacks the remote control jack, which is found on other models of the iPod. Due to the missing jack, the accessories that require it cannot function with the nano. It may be wise to remember thus that all standalone remote control accessories will not work with the nano.

Photo accessories

The nano comes with a color screen and can store and display photos. However users will be unable to upload photos directly. The camera connector of Apple does not work with the nano and photo syncing from within itunes needs to be enabled. Also only the audio feature of accessories that allow users to connect ipod to TV sets works fine, while video connectivity is not available.

Voice recorders and headphones

The nano comes with a “LineIn” test that gives it the capability to record audio. For this to work, voice recorders for the nano must connect via the nano’s dock connector port. Most headphones work with the nano. Thus any set using a standard 1/8" stereo miniplug will work with the iPod nano.

Besides the above accessories, Apple has come up with its own set of special accessories made just for the nano. These include colorful armbands to sport the nano on your hand and Lanyard headphones that minimize clutter with built-in earbuds that integrate the audio out with the lanyard itself. Colorful iPod nano tubes are also available that fit like a glove and offer full Click Wheel control from the outside. In ear headphones available in three sizes from Apple offer great sound quality and bass response.
